Going on Location for Proms!
Apr 6th, 2011 by Monique Perry

Monique goes on location for, not only brides, but also her young prom queens and sweet sixteen year old ladies.

Prom 2011: “Hair & Make -Up”
Prom 2011: Half up with Curls

Three 14″ wefts were added to her shoulder length hair for volume and length. Her hair was then softly curled and pinned at the top and sides.

TEXTURIZING: Stretching & De-frizz but NOT Killing the Curl
Mar 31st, 2011 by Monique Perry

Since opening ‘MoniQ’s Hair Studio’  (June 2010) more and more I run across (or I am referred to)  someone who has recently decided to opt to go “all natural” or fore go any “perms” or permanent/chemical straightening a.k.a relaxers.  The majority of these ladies have had a very bad experience in the past with hair technicians that have over-processed their hair with a “relaxer” and caused hair breakage.  Chemical straighteners are like heat to cooking; very useful and necessary to achieve results desired, but over or mis-use can leave results which are very undesirable.

With over 25 years of licensed experience in chemical and thermal straightening, I can ASSURE you that relaxers don’t break hair, people’s mis-use of hair chemicals break hair.  By choosing the PROPER TIMING AND STRENGTH of the relaxer or texturizer for each person’s individual hair type (fine, med, coarse–not the size of the wave or curl pattern) AND NOT OVERLAPPING previously “permed” hair, not only will you avoid breakage, but HAIR WILL GROW!  (Some pics of clients I’ve helped grow hair using chemical straighteners of various kinds are posted)

Through individual consultations, I have discovered, in many cases, a client is better suited for a texturizer instead of a full blown “relaxer”.  Some of those instances are listed below:

1.  Someone with fine hair.

2.  Someone who wears their hair straight, but wants the option to wear their hair wavy sometimes or “wash-n-wear” during the summer.

3.  Someone who wishes to lighten their natural hair color and/or wants hi-lights added.

4.  Someone who enjoys wearing their curls/waves, but would like a bit more control over them and less frizz.

5.  Someone who is trying to grow their hair out longer.

6.  Someone who wears their hair thermally straightened (blow dried, flat-ironed, roller set) most of the time (75% or more) .

I invite you to come in and speak with me about your hair’s unique needs to see if a texturizer or some other service is right for you.  Consultations are FREE and usually take about 15-30 minutes. Please call to schedule a consultation at (404) 895-7372 and mention this post to receive 25% off your 1st visit!
